South Boise Little League Coaches

All Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Managers are selected by the SBLL Board of Directors including the Division Coaches Coordinator. All must recognize that they hold a position of trust and responsibility in a program that deals with a sensitive and formative period of a child’s development. It is required that the manager and coach have understanding, patience and the capacity to work with children. The manager and coach should be able to inspire respect. Above all else, managers and coaches must realize that they are helping to shape the physical, mental and emotional development of young people.

Managers and coaches must be adults who are sensitive to the mental and physical limitations of children of Little League age and who recognize that the game is a vehicle of training and enjoyment, not an end in itself. It has been stated many times that the program of Little League can only be as good as the quality of leadership in the managing and coaching personnel. South Boise Little League makes a determined effort to enlist the best adults in the community to serve as managers and coaches.

Anyone interested in being a South Boise Little League Manager or Coach should complete Volunteer listing no later than January 15th and be willing to undergo a screening process that will include a background check, as well as attending mandatory trainings.

If a parent or anyone else is dissatisfied with a manager or coach, they are to contact the league's president. The league president will involve the District and Little League Headquarters if he/she feels the situation warrants it. Please see our South Boise Little League Coaches Code of Conduct form.

Coaching Descriptions

T-Ball: The primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. Tee Ball Baseball is for boys and girls 4-5 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. No live pitching is permitted in this division.
Rookies: This level is teaching the basics:  Proper throwing, fielding and catching techniques. Working on fundamentals.  It is the coaches' responsibility to teach good sportsmanship, teamwork, provide encouragement, and, most importantly provide a safe environment.  Some of these players coming into this level will know absolutely nothing about softball so patience and understanding is key.
Minor: At the Minors level most players have a understanding of the basic fundamentals.  The coaches responsibility is still reinforcing  the fundamentals.  The players start pitching at this level so a good grasp of pitching mechanics will help at this level.
Major: The coaches responsibilities at this level are reinforcing the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.  Basic softball fundamentals are still key but at this level the players are starting to get more competitive and coaches are able to bring in drills to the field that are slightly more complex, ie. sliding and stealing.  Pitching mechanic knowledge is more important at this level also.
Junior: Coaching level at this point should be someone who has been coaching for a few years or has a strong knowledge of rules.  This level is more competitive but still reinforce the sportsmanship that comes along with playing a team sport.  This coach should be getting these players ready for their future involvement with softball.  Some of these players will be going on to play high school softball.
